Monthly Link Roundup – June 2016

5 Great Links for June

#1- Two Great Books I Got This Month

If you want to ensure that you have a great day everyday, you should start off with a great morning routine. This is the reason I purchased The Miracle Morning and The Miracle Morning for Writers by Hal Elrod and Steve Scott. They are both wonderfully inspirational and I have started to put the plans into action. I will write a review about this in a future post.

#2 – A How To Tutorial

I am working my way through the action points on the post How To Get 1,000 Readers and I can see that so far I have done 2 out of the 6 things listed.

There are a couple of things that I am not sure I will do but we shall see. It would be great to increase my readership and the suggestions listed are all free and easy to do.

#3 – A Beautiful Song & A Fun Parody

Sometimes you just want to hear an old song that you love. That’s why I headed over to Youtube to watch and listen to Extreme More Than Words.

Then it linked me to the hilarious parody version by Jack Black and Jimmy Fallon. Fantastic.

#4 – A Free Download from Solosmarts

Do you find that you get distracted by the next best thing on the market? Check out this free resource called Managing Bright Shiny Object Syndrome from Kelly McCausey. It could help you to curb your ways and reduce your procrastination and distraction.

#5 – A Fun Evening out in June June 2016 - The Go Between Theatre Production

My sister and I went to see a couple of films and a musical theatre show this month.

The musical theatre production was The Go-Between starring Michael Crawford. The show was so-so but it is always great to go out with my sis. Good times.

How to Make Money Writing Fiction

How to Make Money Writing Fiction

I Want to Make Money Writing Stories

I love writing and it is my aim to create a new income stream from writing short fiction stories. There are plenty of people who have done this with great success and I want to one of those winners.

When I started writing, it was non-fiction. I started out putting together short articles. At the time I struggled to cobble together 250 words and had to really struggle to stretch to 300 words, which used to be the accepted length in order to get articles published on the sites that I was using.

When Amazon provided people with a way to publish their own books, I went ahead and tried it out. I wrote some non-fiction and fiction and was amazed and grateful that people found these short things and actually paid for them.

At the moment I make around $5-10 per month. I hardly do any promotion and the stuff is OK, not great but it was all good practice for what I am about to embark on.

My Fiction Writing Plan for June – December 2016

I want to write at least two short stories each month and aim to get at least one story published each month. These stories will be around 10,000 words long and they will be in the romance genre. The main reasons I am writing short stories is because:

  • They will be quicker to complete
  • There is less chance of getting distracted by other ideas
  • This is a great way to practice my writing skills
  • This is a great way to build up a body of work

How Much Money Can I Make Writing Fiction?

There are people out there who are raking in the cash from their fiction writing. They are people just like me. People who dipped their toes in the water, found a genre that suited them and made money from customers who were seeking to be entertained by those type of stories.

It is scary to put a monetary figure that I would like to earn because seeing as I am only making $5-10 per month at the moment, it doesn’t seem possible that I could earn much more. But I am learning that you have to use the law of attraction and manifest what you desire. So here goes.

By the end of 2016 I want to be earning $10,000 per month from my writing!

Wow – that is scary. Is it possible? Who knows but it is something that I am going to find out over the next few months.

My Fiction Writing Schedule

I have been getting into the habit of writing during my lunch breaks at work. This has worked out really well. There is a library around the corner where I sit and I am able to hand write around 1,000 words in an hour. I work four days a week so this means I should be able to finish a short story every two weeks if I manage to stay on course.

Tune In For Regular Updates

To keep me accountable, I will be writing blog posts and a newsletter about my fiction writing journey. I aim to write a monthly update where I will share the good, the bad and the ugly things that occur as I work towards my goal.

The Things That Are Helping Me on My Fiction Writing Journey

There are lots of things that are helping me to stay motivated as I embark on this fiction writing journey. I visit lots of blogs for regular inspiration and I pop in to a really great Facebook Group where many of the members started out just like me and are making a killing in fiction writing. They are writing in a whole range of genres and book lengths. I hope to be able to look back on 2016 as the year I took my Fiction Writing Business to the next level and beyond.

The Lazy Girl Makeover

Welcome to The Lazy Girl Makeover Blog. I have to laugh at myself because I have had this blog for almost two years and I only wrote and published two posts. Talk about Lazy!!! Actually I wanted to start this blog as a way to get me out of Procrastination Station and onto the journey towards Getting Stuff Donesville. There have been a few hiccups on the way but I am back to try again. So here goes.

The Aim of This Blog – Writing & Living Life

There are two main things that I want to achieve and they are writing fiction and enjoying life.

There is so much other stuff going on that it can be easy to get bogged down and depressed about lack of success or lack of progress.

I am hoping to figure out how to get stuff done without feeling overwhelmed, stuck or lost. So I have set out a rough plan of action that I intend to follow. This will get me back to blogging, back to writing and back to getting the fun out of life.

The Plan

Each month I plan to work on two tasks, one will be writing related and the other will come from a pot of tasks that are on my To Do list. The first task is to ensure that I get stories written and published because I am hoping to create a new income from this.

The other task that I will set is to make sure that I am doing the things that I like. I keep saying that I want to lose weight, go dancing, go on holiday, do a singing course, de-clutter the flat, see friends, make money online, etc. But I never get round to it. So I want to be intentional with my time and my focus so that I am no longer wishing that I could do these things. I can actually say that I have done them.

New Habits – New Challenges

If I can stay on track, I hope to be able to share some great successes with you. I know that there will be some stumbling around in the beginning because trying out new things is always a challenge. But I hope that it will be a lot of fun too.
